DuPont State Forest Advisory Committee
Regional Forester John Pearson has convened a new Advisory Committee to help develop management plans for the future of the DuPont State Forest. The group, consisting of community leaders and representatives from various groups, met for the first time on December 7,and plans to meet quarterly. Officers were elected at the April, 2002 meeting. Environmental Impact Study commissioned To assist in drawing up management options, Forest management has also requested an Environmental Impact Study to be undertaken by the N.C. State University School of Forest Resources. Dr. Gary Blank, who will be leading the study, met with the new Advisory Committee at the December and April meetings. The EIS study is expected to take two years to complete, and will involve various forms of community input, including public hearings. Relationship with Friends of DuPont Forest Friends of DuPont Forest is a non-profit service organization which works to support the policies undertaken by Forest management. As a non-policy making body, FODF seeks to develop a close working relationship with both Forestry management and the DSF Advisory Committee. Presently, three FODF board members also serve on the Advisory Committee (Jeff Jennings, Aleen Steinberg, and Woody Keen). This site produced by Friends of DuPont Forest.
